scrumptious monkey

so much more than an amp -- and yet, not.

Got some Interviews today...

it's a good sign that they're willing to meet with me on a Saturday, right? lol.

I'll take it as a good sign.
I'm asking for Good Vibes sent my way -- Generally and specifically!

And I am soooo getting a cup of coffee. Right now.
Just one. (muahahahaha... it always starts with "just one taste.")

Busy busy busy...

well, whaddya know... I've been hired.

Ok, so it's cake decorating, not retail books: but it's a 40 hour work week, at a decent starting wage. (10 bucks an hour.)
I'm so relieved, I believe I am going to try to get some sleep, now.

Congratulations! Have you ever done cake decorating before? It could be fun. Hope you enjoy it.

Yes'em -- I've got about 7 years experience doing it, both in a grocery line bakery and "more artsy" situations. =)

It's a skill, and I'm great at it -- but the hours are looong, and the customers are generally imbeciles. More so than usual in a retail situation.

You know -- food service hell.
But -- every body's gotta eat -- and every so often, they want a cake for a celebratory occasion. That's where I try to accommodate their desires.

When they have no idea other than... "I have 14 kids and 17 adults to feed and Ricky loves purple -- can you do that?"

I can do that. and Ricky -- who is her adult sister turning the big 4-0 -- ends up with a fabulous cake, pastel purple, white and pink roses, that 1. -- doesn't take the piss out of her for reaching a milestone (there's another party and cake for that)and 2. -- she will actually like, and people will actually eat. Oh, she's allergic to ...

ok. yes Ma'am. none of that in there, then.

You gots to ask questions, you gots to listen -- and you gots to think on your feet.

I could teach cake decorating in my sleep -- and nearly have. lol.

The immediate money pressure is off now. You are now officially an Austin resident in a sustainable position.
This is great news. But please don't give up on the book thing. Cake decorating may be where your experience lies, but books are where your heart is.
Please say you'll use your off-hours to continue to look for the bookstore gig.

Congratulations! Welcome to a different kind of stress... the full-time job. Still beats worrying about what you're going to write on your cardboard sign. Hope it's not a long commute.
